When cleaning my reel, I got a piece of cloth stuck in the worm shaft. I started to reel the reel in frustration to see if it would do anything. I eventually took my reel apart and got the piece of cloth out. However...when I was done putting the reel back together, it did not reel smooth at all. It was bumpy and very un-smooth. Did I strip a gear when I reeled the reel? I just need to know what is wrong with the reel so I can find a solution to this problem. I will appreciate all responses.

you might have stripped some teeth off of your idle gear which is attached to the worm shaft. not hard to do if you get something like cloth or paper stuck in the worm gear as it's made out of plastic. part 25 in the diagram below.

I don't like that word 'bumpy', but if you're lucky

it may only be cloth remnants in the gears.

Either way, you'll have to disassemble her again.
