Trolling Motor?

Featured Replies

I have a 14' vhull. It has a 55lb Minn Kota Powerdrive in the front. In the back, it has a 55lb Minn Kota Endura Max. I want to extend the reach of the battery cable on the Powerdrive so that the battery will go in the back of the boat. How can I do this? Id prefer to buy something so I don't have to mess with electrical stuff. Will this product work good:http://marine.bassdistributing.com/promariner-15-battery-bank-cable-extender-mite-sport-torn-51070?gclid=Cj0KEQjwwoLHBRDD0beVheu3lt0BEiQAvU4CKst9snC7SG_MPk4mdahPBfSnWQ0YpJCWmnlPpHPiv28aAoaI8P8HAQ

Those will not work. They are charging cables designed to handle about 10 amps and will burn up if you try to use them for your application. Those are used from a charger to the battery, not from battery to trolling motor. Your trolling motor will draw about 40 amps, and you should use at least 6 gauge wiring.

The easiest way is to mount a simple waterproof electrical plug to your trolling motor wiring. Then mount a waterproof electrical outlet. The outlet would get mounted in a typical plastic electrical box and waterproof lid from Home depot.   There are cheaper options but here is what I would use so that it can handle the voltage without losing amperage.  The plug and outlet are available from Bass Pro.  The wire can be purchased online, at your local electrical supply house or Home Depot.  I would use 6 or 8 gauge wire and a circuit breaker as well.  Here are some pictures.
