I will be in New Orleans and Baton Rouge next week for work.  Staying in the city in both places and looking to carry a rod or two with me and squeeze in a few casts when i can.  I'll have a rental car too so no issues there.  I'm staying very close to city park in new orleans and city park in baton rouge.  Both appear to be accessible and good spots to fish.  Anyone ever fish either of these 2 places and any information you can offer up on either of them?

Also, any food recommendations welcome!  Staying in Metairie in New Orleans and very close to LSU in Baton Rouge but willing to drive a little for some food that must be had before i leave town!

Thanks!

There's another thread somewhere round here with great answers

I fish N.O. city park pretty often.  It has  good bass fishing in just about all ponds on the park.  Also along Marconi Dr, which runs right next to the park, there is a large canal that has good bass fishing(not the canal that is behind the large concrete wall, it will be the canal on the park side of the street).

B.R. City park and University Lake also have some good bass fishing from what I have heard. I've never fished it myself, but several of my buddies who went to LSU have told me it was a good bass Lake.  Actually the 7th largest bass on state record was pulled out of university lake.

For food in New Orleans area, I would recommend Drago's Seafood Restaurant, they have a location in Downtown N.O and Metairie(I recommend the Metairie location).  All of their seafood is good, but their charbroiled oysters are really great(I usually don't even like oysters either). There are literally hundreds of restaurants that have fantastic food, but Drago's is a good start for seafood.

If your looking for a great po boy after fishing, there is a place near N.O. city park called Parkway Bakery & Tavern, they make a really good po boy sandwich.

That bass caught in University Lake was the state record at that time!

I thought that was the case Catt, but I couldn't remember for sure.

BTW Catt...I'll be staying on Toledo Bend in a month in a half.  So I'll be showing up in that Toledo Bend thread very soon. :)

University Lake was part of a Florida Largemouth stocking in the mid-80s, it was stocked with 32,400 fingerling a years for 9 years.

Well guys, Baton Rouge did not disappoint!  That University Lake is something else!  What a honey hole right there on campus.  I now understand why people like @Sam get all tore up over some LSU......  very cool campus and nice area.  I'd have never graduated if i had all that fishing, casino, etc. around!  I ended up catching a good bit of small bass, a couple crappie (sacalait or whatever y'all call them!) and a few little sunnies.  All fish caught on small moving baits, rooster tails, beetle spins, mini rebel cricket cranks.  Couldn't get a bite on the plastic worms though!

Really enjoyed myself and hope to find my way back here soon, thanks to @Sam @Catt and @Troy1985s for the info!

Couple pics, one of me proudly sporting my UNC shirt on the LSU campus!
