What else would you guys say I need?

Featured Replies

Since it's summer me an my buddies go fishing everyday at this large pond near my house. It's at a park called The Bedford Boy's Ranch, and there seems to be a good number of decent bass in the pond but I can't get 'em. Until today I had few lures and only had success with one. I know there are fish there because a friend of mine catches several every day he goes. So, what I wanna know is, what other lures would you guys suggest I grab (I'm posting a pic of all my lures to help you guys out)? The pond seems to be a few feet deep near the shores and I imagine it might get to 7 or 8 feet away from the shore. The water is a murky green, relatively calm, and there is little to no cover.

Thanks,

I already have a bunch of small plastic worms for fishing for perch in a local creek, but they are all too small for bass. So, grab the ones that are around 4 inches long? What colors would you guys suggest, and what kind of weights should i grab to rig them with?

senkos, spinnerbaits, baby brush hogs, GYCB kreatures, etc.

good colors are green pumpkin, watermelon, pumpkin, & black/blue.

dont be scared to use a 7 1/2 in worm. Most your your tackle there looks like it is for pearch. I would get some worms and some spinnerbaits, try a steady retrieve with the spinnerbait.

The two lures next to the fingernail clippers are actually great for bass even though they look like perch lures. They seem to be the only thing the bass would hit the other day. Everything on the top row was bought today, but aren't those lures with the propeller things the same as spinner baits? One of my friends who does much better than me catches quite a few good sized bass on black ones of those. Are Wobble Worms any good? My friend seems to think they are awesome (Even though I have never seen him catch anything...) Hopefully my local Army Navy has some of those. My local Wal-mart and Academy are too far away to ride a bike to.

Thanks guys, BTW are there any websites that I could buy lures from that would be cheaper than Academy or Wally World?

just a suggestion, jointed jitterbug black, spinnerbait chart/white booyah,

frogs, lizards, i use manns hardnosed green pumpkin, 5/0 or 4/0 gammy ewg hook, 1/8 bullet weight [some people dont like manns frogs, whatever you feel comfy with]

maybe a rapala xrap jerkbait, senkos, some 7+'' worms,1/4 oz bullet weights

i fish ponds all the time i use bettle spins and soft plastics some good bettle spin collors are white with red dot and black and chartruse for soft plastics i would use some green pumpin crawfishes or some zoom super flukes in pearl color hope this helps

but aren't those lures with the propeller things the same as spinner baits?

no there not they are top waters spinner bait go under the water and have blades and a skirt that imatates a shad

Oh, ok. I have one spinnerbait, but the skirt fell off. I might try retying it.

Man, you are in bad need of some poprs!

If you're fishing in a pond you really need some beetle spins too.  Maybe some spinnerbaits, a rapala floating minnow.  Grab some purple ribbontail worms in 7.5".

You have a real bait monkey attack coming your way.  Start saving now!

I have enough money to get anything I want, but I'm saving up for some new paintball equipment. As soon as I get the extra cash I'm gonna grab me some worms, Pop R's, a Rapala Floating Minnow, and a few spinnerbaits.

Willonpill,

You'll soon find out that you'll never have enough money to satisfy the bait monkey.  Everytime I think I have everything and anything I want I find out that there's alot more that I can't do without.

The first thing I would do is ask your friend what he is using if he is catching several bass every time he goes hes probibly on to something.

I think he's using those top water spinnerbaits. Or, at least, I think that's what they are called.

If you mean the one that floats with the propeller on the rear that's a torpedo. Heddon makes those. That was the lure that got me addicted to bass fishing. You should definitley get a few of those in various colors and sizes too.

If you're referring to the 3 wire baits that are at the top of your picture, they are called "Buzzbaits"

I would buy a couple Booyah Spinner baits in White, and a chartruese. I'd buy a few hard jerkbaits such as Xraps, Lucky Craft Pointer, Yozuri Crystal Minnow. I'd also get 2-3 packs of senkos (in either green pumpkin, cinnamon brown, or black), get 1 pack of 4inch, 1 of 5inch, and 1 of 6inch. I'd buy a Black jitterbug for dusk/night fishing. And a pack of 4inch Powerworms in Camo or Red Shad (these worms are almost impossible to fish wrong, all beginners I see fishing them still catch a large amount of fish). And be warned once you get hooked on this sport you'll be spending alot of time at the large tackle stores buying all different kinds of baits, and after your purchase you will find yourself immediately looking at more baits online and saying "oooh... I need that!.. and that!!! and that!!! and THAT!!!!" and eventually you'll have your own personal tackle shop right there at your own home. Welcome to the world of the bass fishing angler, and good luck  8-).
