Electronics Covers

Featured Replies

Anyone know somebody manufacturing covers for electronics? A sock like cover that stays on when trailering? Tha plastic lids that come with the Lowrance units suck and serves no purpose since you cant drive with it on...plus it only protects the screen.

Yep ! The folks at Cabelas have what you need.  Check under "fishing", "boating electronics", Sonar accessories.   They got all the major brands covered.  Several years ago I purchased a cover from them for my Eagle and it left with the boat when I sold it.  Elasticized neoprene.  Good Stuff.

Somewhere I read that leaving your electronics mounted in the boat while trailering  was tough on them. The logic was that the trailer ride was rougher than having them in the car. Mine always ride in the car.

my garmin came with a nice cover    i have it hooked to a ram mount at the console   and i use  baby bungee straps to hold it on place  while trailering  just hook the straps thru the holes

About removing your electronics while trailering. Somehow I think they take a bigger beating on rough water. If someones trailer is riding that hard, they have a problem.

I remove all electronics (two sonar units) when trailering the boat.

Too many things flying around while driving that can strike the units and damage them, like a pebble thrown from a passing truck.

My Lowarnce units are just too expensive to allow them to be subjected to the elements.

I don't leave my electronics mounted on the boat until I'm ready to put in.  I put my Garmin and Lowrance units in a $6 lunchbag size cooler from Wally World.  It has a hard plastic insert too.

I use crown royal bottle bags.

You da' man!

I have damaged more depth finders by removing them, then by leaving them mounted in the boat.

35 years of boating/fishing, I have never had a problem with damaging a depth finder while it was mounted on the boat in any way shape or form while trailering or otherwise. (short of someone hitting it while casting) On the other hand, I have dropped them while mounting and dismounting them...

There is certainly no reason to remove your sonar units while trailering.

I would have to agree with Striperone, Not only dropping them but unplugging them that much puts a lot of needless on the wire connectors and the pins can be be bent very easy on the head unit.  The neoprene covers from Cabelas will keep any stones or debris from hitting the screen, besides if your graph is mounted facing your tow vehicle your just begging for it to take a stone. Put the cover on and fold the unit face down.

I can remove any depth finder in under 15 seconds, so if you stop at a store or fast food restaurant you're a target.  :'(

I'll take my chances keeping mine locked up in the truck thank you   :P

To answer Hale's question if your wife can sew covers are simple to make

They are hard to remove when they are mounted in the dash and in the bow panel .... I do take off my GPS though as it is beside the console.

Yeah Ive been talking to the wife about making some....

The only time I take them off is when I stop somewhere and leave the boat unattended. But as far as being damaged, I want the covers to keep peebles and road debris off of it. I dont see how trailering them could have any other damaging effects.
