Muddy water confusion

Featured Replies

I'm curious on some opinions for bass behavior. I have fished a lake by me several times this year now.  It's a fairly shallow, muddy (less than 6 inches visibility) lake with lots of rock, docks and occasional wood. Being that water color black n blue would seem like an automatic go to right? Well the ONLY color my partner and I can catch fish on is green pumpkin craws and chatterbaits, which doesn't make sense to me. Anyone have any insight on why this might be? We have throw all colors of the rainbows in spinnerbaits, chatterbaits, soft plastics and squarebills with no bites whatsoever. We have even ran an entire area with these with no bites and went back through with green pumpkin chatterbaits and crushed them. Just doesn't make sense to me. Thanks!

Baitfish and crawdads don't change color to make it easier for the bass to see them in dirty water. They may slightly change hues, but for the most part remain the same color.

That's pretty much what I was thinking, just found it somewhat unusual and eye opening. Whenever I see muddy water I almost exclusively break out the darker colors. I guess I won't be doing that as much anymore.
