Tatula reel, line popping out of the T wing.

Featured Replies

I've got a Tatula HL spooled with 20lbAbrazx on my Carolina rig rod.  It seems at least 1 in 10 retrieves the line pops up out of the bottom of the T and goes to the palm side of the T.  This causes the line to bunch to one side.  I catch it pretty quickly, but it's happening often enough that I am spending too much attention on it rather than fishing.  Anyone else have this issue and fix it?

Do you use a line conditioner?

Tom

Braid.

I'd suggest a good cleaning and lube job.

Then a nice serving of guacamole.

Guac...  done, too often. Cleaning done too.  I'm about to disable the T wing and convert it into a Fuego.

I have 4 it's and don't have that problem. It may do it for a handle turn but not much. Maybe once an outing.

Never had that problem with mine. Just spitballing but could your spool be too full?

20 lb FC line has a lot of memory and FC doesn't wet so it springs loose on the spool and could be leaving the T wing slot during the cast, have no idea how the line would jump out during the retrieve.

You didn't reply, but I will suggest trying Tangle Free line conditioner and apply it a few time an hour to see if wet line stays on the spool. 2 oz squeeze bottle isn't expensive and shoukd resolve your problem. Another suggestion is use Sunline Armillo Diefer Nylon 25 lb line (.016D) in lieu of Abrax FC (.016D).

You are probably hitting it with your finger and pulling it up try holding the rod old school and see if it happens. I.e. pistol grip fashion

Sorry WRB the Looks like my reply got goofed when I replied to others.  I use KVD Line and Lure on it.

I've read where sometime moving a bait with a rod can cause an instant of slack that causes the line to pop out.  Maybe that's it?

I do not think it has any thing to do with "moving the bait with the rod"  I fish a total of 7 Daiwa Tatula Type Rs and 2 Tatula CTs and have never had it do that to me. I fish jigs, texas rigs, carolina rigs, crankbaits, frogs, and jerkbaits on these reels. I am not sure what the issue is but a T wing should not cause it.

I use 15# Trilene 100 % and I have had zero issues with my Tatula. I also have one with 50# braid and it works flawlessly as well. Call Daiwa, they will take care of you.
