So my cousin bought one of these rods http://whiskerseeker.com/catfish-ice-rod-wst-whisker-stick/ . He bought it to hang it off the canoe and honestly it has worked real well considering casting room can be rough with 3 people on a canoe. I ordered one in casting as well. I am curious, without getting to expensive, what reel would you put on one of these if you were using it for the same purpose we are? 

probably a little spinning reel since it's 3 feet 2 inches long and designed for ice. Stradic 1000. 

It is not a high end rod, so I would not spend too much money on the reel.

A Shimano Sedona or sahara in the 2500 size would be a good choice, since its a med/hvy rod.

Get a smaller baitfeeder so you can set it so a fish can run with the bait when it takes. You can get one for a pretty reasonable price.
