True. I'm also curious whether I should right up on shore or offshore and how to determine that.

I start near shore, on top, and work my way down the water column, and down the point.  There's no right or wrong, just my method.

Points are the most popular forms of structure because they are easiest to find and can be fished with any lure & technique which makes them the most pressured.
