Mark Zona's "shark knot"

Featured Replies

Just curious if anyone is or has ever used the so called shark knot that Mark Zona talks about?

I think it is the same as swindle' so knot.

Very strong and easy to tie

Shaw Grigsby (no name knot) Gary Klein and Gerald Swindle all have you tube videos of the same knot but they pass the loop through the bottom loop next to the hook eye.

I've been useing it more and more lately instead of the SDJ

I think it was Jimmy Houston's and I too use it from time to time.

I believe the doubled uni test about the same, but there is a lot going on with the latter

Truth be told, most knots are fine if tied properly.

Only seems fitting to bring this up now after the Discovery channel aired its "Shark Week"

I saw Zona tie this a while back on YouTube and I have been using it quite a bit ---good knot strength and super easy to tie--I like it with my old eyes any thing that is easy to see and tie is great.  Very good knot

Tied one of these today. Wet the line, cinched it down and cut the tags. Gave it a good tug and of course it broke at the knot. Re tied with a Palomar and good to go. I'll stick with the palomar.

Not sure how good this knot is, as the Palomar and Trilene knots are tried and proven over many years for me.

What I am sure about is this: you should never, ever use your teeth to cut fishing line, especially heavy line.  Please do not try to imitate this guy's technique in the video for cutting.  Even though this knot may not fail you; your teeth used for cutting will eventually fail and chip if you do this enough.
