Lubing steering cables

Featured Replies

Howdy,

I have a Nitro 750 bass boat. The steering is very tight. How do you lube the steering cables? When I say the steering is tight I mean that moving the boat is an extreme workout. I bought the boat used and it steers like a tractor. I got the boat with no manuals.

How do you lube the steering?

My old fish and ski was tight and I lubed everything I could find.  Finally I was told by the mechanic at my local dealership that the only way I was going to fix it was to replace the steering cable.  Maybe worth a shot.

Everything I have read indicates that lubing the cable adequately is pretty much impossible.

I'm in the same situation with my old boat.  I'm going to try to make it through this year before replacing the cable.

you can try to spray some lubricant on the cable and work it in,,, but from I've found out, it's probably to late, and you'll have to bite the bullet and buy a new one, hopefully not a dual cable! that's twice the cost!

I had to replace the sterring on my backup boat just a few months ago. Man let me tell you ( Pay someone else to do it ) I ended up takeing the motor all the

way off the boat to get the cables hookedup. All Day Job. 8-)

if they are that hard to move, get them replaced. I had mine done about 3 years ago and it was the best thing I ever did. you can't get the whole cable lubed so once it starts sticking it gone. replace it.
