How to choose the best baitcaster for your rod.

Featured Replies

So, I've got a few rods that I'm looking to pair with the best possible baitcaster possible (obviously subjective when discussing brands). That said, wanted to get an idea as to how I should choose the right reel to match a specific rod. Example, I have G.Loomis MBR844c Heavy Fast... how do I choose the proper reel? I assume that it can withstand a greater fight than my MBR782c Medium Fast that I paired with a Chronarch 200e7.

So once again I'm trying to figure out what real peers with each specific flex from Med to Extra Heavy.

Thanks!

Your 200e7 would be good for both rods.

I assumed as much but I'm a tad confused as to how much my reel can handle... haha I know catch take it out on the big sea but why wouldn't I get a larger reel since it's a larger rod?

50 to 200 size reels are fine for regular bass fishing. Choose line type and size depending on baits and cover.

Here's another way to phrase the question, I was going to buy the Curado K for my 7' MBR844c Heavy Fast but I haven't because it --in size-- is similar to the Chronarch I already have... why shouldn't I just use my Chronarch for both rods rather then going with a Diawa Steez SV TWS or a Shimano Metanium MGL (aside from the price difference)? Wouldn't those be more fitting for a greater rod?

.I'm planning to put a Curado hg on a MBR844c.  If you have a Chronach, I'd use that. There's something to be said for having similar equipment that you know and are comfortable with.

Of course, new and different gear is fun. ;)
