Hollow body frogs

Featured Replies

So when I fish a frog the fish will hit it but the split second they hit it they spit it out. I've tried several colors and they all end up with the same result. I'm just looking for tips to make them hold on longer.

What frog and what size?

Are you sure the fish actually got the bait? Are you sure it's bass and not bluegill tugging it under by the skirt?

Most people that have trouble fishing frogs try and set the hook way too early. It takes time to learn the reflex of how to set the hooks on hollow body frogs, but a general rule is after a blowup, reel down the slack while counting to two and then set it.

If that is bass, you should be able to catch one. They won't spit it that fast. I have the best luck with the frog when I observe bass chasing bait or bluegill in the shallows or weeds.

I don't think it was a bass either.  They will usually hold it for a long time, once I experimented with not setting the hook all day and they would usually hold on for at least 5-10 seconds, and would often refuse to drop it and hooked themselves.  Most likely a bluegill pulling it under.

Could even be real frogs coming after it. You'll know when a bass has it, you'll feel the weight then set the hook.
