Pedestal seat question

Featured Replies

Im wondering if i could mount pedestal seats in a Lund WC 14 DLX. Its got one of those floor ideas and Im curious as to wether or not its sturdy enough for a pedestal. Thanks for answering.

My experience with Lund is a very quality overbuilt boat.  I would say it is probably okay.  I am not sure why you call a deck an idea.  Maybe some pics would be better.  I am not sure whether you want a seat on the bench seat or on the deck, or are trying to build a deck.

Ok, here's a pic of it. I guess I'd call it a subfloor. I guess I want to know what is underneath it and will it support a pedestal?

I imagine that the deck on that boat is similar to the decks of other 14 - 16 foot Lunds.  Many of them have pedestals.  I am not sure how new your boat is.  Is the deck made of marine plywood or aluminum.  I believe it is ply.  With that in mind, you need one of the springfield taperlock or similar pedestals.  But, this would involve drilling holes in the floor, and I wouldn't do that until contacting Lund.  There may be something right below that section of deck, that you shouldn't drill through.

My first move would be to contact Lund and see what they say.  They may have a different thought than me, and I would follow them as I have never seen that particular model in person.

When I removed the drivers seat from my boat and installed a pedistol in the center for a third person I built a box out of 3/4 inch ply and 2X4s.  I mounted this to the AL deck of the boat with sheet metal screws about 50 of them.  The pedistol is mounted to this box.  It is very strong.  My sub floor was AL not wood.  I could have removed the floor from the boat cut a hole in it and installed the seat with a backing plate then reinstalled the floor.  The plywood box was much easier.

Good luck,

Tom D.

What about one of those pedistals that just bolts straight to the floor?

I have yet to see many that bolt directly to the floor.  Many look like they do, but you don't see the hole they had to drill for it.

If it were me, there would be a seat in it.  I dont see any problem putting one in on the flooring.  Obvioulsy you need to check for proper dimensions, but a pedastal seat would work. IMHO
