The Boat ( fishing in the wind part 2)

Featured Replies

someone posted about fishing in the wind...

the second part about fishing in the wind is the darn boat...

so I have heard all kinds of explanations as to why my aluminum bass boat gets pushed around in the wind so much worse than the fiberglass. While fishing in the wind next to my father in law in his javelin...me in my pro team tracker... The wind was pushing me all over the place...

He says it is the exposed freeboard on my boat...but if you messure the freeboard while in the water I have less exposed than he does. And a guy we know who fishes from a deep V does not have as much problem as I do.

A friend says it is the weight but a guy who fishes from an Xpress...which is not much lighter than a fiber boat...has the same problem. There is not enough weight difference between the upper end Xpress and mid range fibers for me to find this feasable.

Why do the aluminum boats struggle in the wind?

Their are three reason.  One being the weight and the second being the freeboard and the third is hull design.

You missed the crucial part.  You measured free board and weight, but the fiberglass boat and the deep Vee have more hull under the water.  Kinda like a keel on a sailboat.  Your tracker and the express have less underwater mass and the under water slope is a gentler slope the the glass boat and the deep vee.
