Minn Kota problem

Featured Replies

Variable speed went out on my Minn Kota Maxxum this morning. Regardless of where the dial was set, (off, High or anywhere in between) the motor would run on high.

Is it the control board or relay switch?

Funny thing about it is I just got it back from the shop because I smashed the upper control box on a boat dock rail. At the same time I had one of my kid's reels repaired. Now this happened and my kid's other reel (exact same model) has a problem.  lol The shop is going to think I am crazy.

Control board.

Minn Kota part #2884053

Usually about $150

Simple to change if you can run some basic hand tools.

Also a little FYI for non variable speed Maxxum and Edge owners....you CAN install the variable speed control board and turn your 5 speed motor into a variable speed motor pretty easy. I just did this for a friend of mine who wanted to upgrade to a VS motor over his edge..................I said hold my beer and watch this. Saved him $800.

I have a Maxxum in the garage with broken cable anchor, but everything else works.  If you decide it's a small, easy to ship part that I can take off and send, let me know.  If you have interest I will check the model number.

I appreciate the offer.

I am going to call my guy that just worked on it 2 weeks ago and see what he has to say about the cost to fix it. It might be time to just buy a new one.

Thanks for the info guys.
