JET DRIVE CONVERSION FROM PROP

Featured Replies

I live close enough to the upper Potomac River to get some use from a jet drive.  My current engine is a 40hp Evinrude w a prop.  Does anyone have a ballpark idea how much it would cost to turn this motor into a jet drive?  I would use my outboard a lot more chasing muskies on the river than I will ever use it anywhere else.

Thanks

I think it is still around $1500+ to have it done. That was last price I got down here. I know it cheaper if you can do it yourself. Really only good in rocky and sandy bottom rivers....they suck up vegatation bad. Also be prepared to lose around 30% of the 40hp you have now....

Steve it may be cost prohibitive is that even a word.  I know most of the jet drive i have seen use much larger power heads then they are rated.  A 40hp jet would have a 75-80hp power head.  So if you can find a lower unit that would fit you would end up with about a 25 hp motor.

Good Luck,

TD

I understand about the loss of power.  I only want to go fishing...not water skiing ;D.  The upper Potomac is very rocky.  Only fools, and those who know the river REAL well, venture there with a prop drive.
