Do you think that using a 12lb fluoro leader is too light for flipping and throwing swimbaits on a 7'8 Heavy rod? I normally fish ultra clear water so I need to go relatively light. Thanks!

Yes. Those are big fish tactics and IMO you may get your heart broken. 

 

I wouldn't flip with 12#, but depending on the swimmers you throw it could work, prob not throwing big Swimbaits on a flipping stick anyway. If I'm not mistaken, butch brown throws the 250 with 15# fluoro 

And then there is the old adage "More knots = more problems".  stir, stir, stir...just about done

Your lake may force your hand as some of the lakes in WA i did not get bit using over 6lb line.  Try it for a while and see.  I dont mind jig fishing with 12 but i am not putting money on the line... If its just for pleasure fishing give it a shot...

Have you ever heard of Dee Thomas?

Dee introduced competitive tournament bass anglers to flippin back in the early 70's.

Everyone thought when Dee came to "their" clear water lakes he wouldn't catch their line shy bass......wrong!

Dee would say shallow bass are active feeding bass and all you need to do is put the lure in front of them. Dee used 30lb mono.

Flippin into cover, you can't into open water and catch bass unless it's on a bed, the cover defuses light and camouflages the line. Whenever I flip into heavy cover I use 60 braid direct to my jigs.

Contrast flippin to making long cast to open water areas with sparse cover, then I use 10 to 12 lb so the line doesn't spook the bass.
