Troubleshooting a Reel

Featured Replies

Hey all,

I have been a long time lurker and I have come across a problem I've never encountered before.

I bought a Piscifun Venom 3000 Spinning Reel and spooled up some 30 lb braid. When I went to rig a hook i noticed that the line came out very easily with the spool closed, even at full drag. When the line comes out, the reel spins backwards as if I was "unreeling" it (if that makes any sense). I don't have any issues reeling the line in.

I only have experience with my two Penn Battle II 5000s and they do not do this. On those, when you tug the line the other way, you get resistance immediately and it does not "unreel" from the reel.

Is this normal for the Piscifun Venom 3000 or is there something I need to fix? I can try to upload a video if my description wasn't very good.

Thanks all.

Sounds like your anti reverse is not engaged. Usually at the bottom of the reel there is a switch to turn it on and off.

It's the spool spinning or is the line slipping on the spool?

It looks and feels nice so far. The size & weight is obviously very different than the PBII 5000s that I am used to. I'll be testing it out Saturday morning for the first time and let you all know.

I stand corrected. You CAN learn something about fishing on the InterWeb®...
