Man Eaters of Kumaon

I have written about Jim Corbett many times in many forums. He was the existential conservationist/naturalist of the early 1900's. He killed more man eating tigers and leopards than any other man alive - past or present. I first read of Colonel Corbett back in the late 50's, growing up with an inherent desire to hunt & fish.

His original book, "Maneaters of Kumaon" I read cover to cover many nights, dreaming about the adventures of hunting dangerous game. In the service, I purchased his complete writings at the original Ambercromby & Fitch store, in Chicago, during boot camp in the 60's. Since then, I've recent found the Jim Corbett Omnibus on Amazon.com. This 4" thick hard cover book is printed in England and is still available for purchase. An heirloom to be passed down to generations of younger sportsmen.

Recently I've found the original Hollywood movie depicting his life. Although considerably condensed and less than technically superiority than what is available today, it tells the story of a man's true love of nature and of hunting. The following is the "YouTube" of that motion picture. Not a box office smash hit for sure, but it does yield insight into this courageous man's life and his almost unbelievable accomplishments. And he did this one on one, on foot, by himself, without assistance. If you have an opportunity to purchase this volume on his adventures, I assure you, you will come away with as deep a respect, for an outstanding sportsman, as I have.

I read that book here while back, and it was a very interesting and good read. I liked his style of writing....but man some of the things he encountered sure is hard to believe!

I read that book a long time ago. Thrilling . Another one is Hunter by J.A. Hunter .
