hi I just brought a ugly stik elite spinning rod 7" MH and a abu Garcia revo sx40 with 40lb braided line and this week I try the setup out and I don't know why my $30 Walmart rod/reel is much lighter and reeling the line so much smooth. my friend told me to downgrade the revo sx to a 30 but I don't know wat is the weight on the rod. im trying to reconfigure my setup and hope you guys can help me. I do bass fishing and use plastic worm and rodent.

Your setup is likely to heavy in power for bass, making it feel heavy when you fish. I would try to return the rod for a medium, the reel for a 25 or 30 and use at most 3o lb braid on a spinning reel. you will hardly ever need 40 lbs on spinning gear let alone to be able to break that... braid floats so its good for topwater which i assume is a rodent, and yet it is sensitive enough for soft plastics. that is what i would do if i were you. ps make sure you spool the braid correctly look up "how to spool braid on spinning reel" on google. hope this helps

wat kind of rod would u guys recommend that wont break my wallet? I was looking into St. Croix Bass X Spinning Rods, their website say it weight like 4oz? do any1 know how much weight is the ugly stik? seems pretty heavy compare to my old fishing rod
 

i saw sx20 on sale and was wondering which one is better for me sx20 or sx30? im going to use #30 braided line. sx20 is 7.3oz and sx30 is 7.9. i don't know will that .6 oz difference matter. i know sx30 can spool more line. so im just don't know which one is better for me

Hi Richard, welcome to the forums.

 

For bass fishing, you really do not need to go over

a 20 or 25 (aka 2000, 2500) size reel. There's nary

a bass alive that'll require more reel than that.

 

I use 1000 size for all my bass fishing, and even use

that size for inshore saltwater fishing.

 

A medium rod is a great power to pair with a spinning

reel.

alright i'll get the sx20 since its the same weight as an sx10. for rod what rod choice would u recommend that is around $100 and not so heavy? im looking at either ugly stik elite medium or st. crox bass x medium. what length should i get 6.6 or 7"? i fish on river bank and under the bridge.

any1 can tell me is 6.6M or 7M better for plastic bait style?

This is not nearly enough information.  If both rods carry the same rating and action, then it shouldn't matter.  You will get a longer cast with the longer rod....all else being equal.  You will move more line with the longer rod.  If fishing from shore, the shorter rod would be a better choice if you fish near trees or other obstructions that would inhibit the cast.

6'8" is MXF 4oz and 7'1" is MF 3.8 oz yes im fishing from river bank. right now im using ugly stik elite 7' MH it is heavy that's why im trying st.croix brass x out
