Is the Revo Spinning Reel worth it

Featured Replies

There is a store near me trying off their last stock of the Revo Rocket and MGX. They are selling the Rocket for $130 and the MGX for $175. Are either of the reels worth that deal?I know their MSRPs but I am asking people that own or have owned either reel in the past if those prices are sweet enough to purchase.

Edit: They also have the STX for $130 (I know they are the same as Rockets with slower gears).

Their decent performers that hold up fine in terms of fishable use, but odds are they'll look terrible after a few years.  If your the type that is rough on stuff or cares about aesthetics, something to consider. Ive had an SX, rocket and a few of the 1st gen orra SX's and the finish/paint rubs off in a stiff wind. In addition to things like little badges and knobs just falling off.

Spinning reels have come along way in terms of value recently. Not to bring up a reel u didnt ask about- but it'd be hard to not get a Daiwa BG for a good deal less money IMO. The revos just dont justify the cost as they go up IMO.

I will tell you this. I am a die hard Revo user. I have 7 MGX's and 3 Revo Gen 1 Premier baitcasters, and I love everyone of them. The Mgx's are smooth and very light weight. I am in the market for 6 spinning reels for my wife. As much as I like the Revos, I am not going to buy any Abu spinning reels even the MGX, which I believe is a 2016 model and overpriced. I have heard so much negative info on there spinning reels, that I just don't want to deal with it. My next choice is a Shimano Stradic 2500, STCI42500HGFB with the Hagane Gear. I hope I make the right decision, coming from a die-hard Revo MGX user. If you buy the MGX, let me know how you like it.
