Broken/replacement windshield project

Featured Replies

Well...last year on an over zealous hookset I tripped over a rod on the deck and fell, busting my windsheild into pieces. ( and no I did not land the fish ).

While I do not really NEED the windshield on my boat...it belongs there so I went about trying to get a new one.

I tried to order one from Tracker...NO GO. Boat is too old ( 1989).

so then I decided to check with a local plastics company I do some electrical work for...they wanted $180!!! I was not paying $180 dollars!

...so I decided to make my own. I have since mounted a fish finder on the top of the council so I need a whole new shape anyway.

I got a piece of plexiglass ( poly, not lexan) from a freind, made a template with cardboard, cut it out, shaped it with a heat gun...and it came out pretty good! It is clear and needs to be tinted yet, but if I would have bought pre tinted poly I could have saved a step. ( but free poly is free poly after all)

It really is not a difficult job. with the right plastic and a bit of patience I think just about anyone can do it. the layout and making the template is the hardest part.
