Least Expensive way to get mobile on the water..

Featured Replies

I'm looking for a way for my girlfriend and I both to be able to get mobile in the water instead of on shore.. I've been thinking about tubes, but my girlfriend doesn't like the idea of being in water all that much.. What other options are there, and what websites sell tubes in case I were to go that route...

Any other suggestions that don't involve towing something behind the car...?

Canoes can be car-topped.  There's also inflatable rafts as well.  Pretty sure you can get a kayak on a cartop too.

You might try to find a used coleman crawdad or something similar. I bought a Pelican Bass Raider on sale new for $450 at Dick's and loaded it on top of my jeep. I'm sure if you look around you could probably find one less than $350

Find ya a little jonboat for about $200 then another $100 in a trolling motor and you're set...

I was very fortunate to have my neighbor give me his crawdad fo free...you just gotta look around!  ;)

How I found my jon--I made copies of a flyer stating That I noticed the boat in your yard and was wondering if you were interested in selling it.  Add your name and phone number and a THANK YOU.

I then kept them in my day bag I take on the truck (camera, supplies, extra cloths etc,..NOT a purse, lol)  When I would get into a "lakeside" neighborhood, I would leave a notice in the door of any house that had a boat I would be willing to work with.  Many of these boats are accumulating moss, etc, used by a son before college who has since moved out etc, Many of these vessels are just an eyesore at moms house, they are HAPPY to get rid of it.  You can tell which boats are getting used or not.

Now, this was easy for me because I'm a UPS driver and in these neighborhoods every day but I hand3ed out less than 20 of them before finding one.  I had about 5 call backs , even a few to just say it wasn't for sale.  Nice of them to call.  This can be done on 1 saturday though.  Pick a few lakes near you and target the neighborhood around it.

Good luck

Old Town canoes can be had for less than $600.  No trailer required (although it makes it easier).

Thanks LBH, and everyone else.. I'm leaning towards a john boat as of now, but will need to save a bit more.. But thank you very much! I have that article in my favorites  ;D

Went out with a buddy last Sat, me in my toon and I let him use my sons Creek Co. 7'er toon boat and he had an absolute blast. His 3rd fish of the day was a solid 4 1/2 lb'er that spun him around to whatever direction it wanted to go. We boated (or pontooned lol) 21 bass between us in about 4 hours.

He must have thanked me 50 times saying how much of a blast he had fishing outta the pontoon. I told him we'll go again no problem. Another happy tooner I have converted.
