Braided line

Featured Replies

I’m thinking on putting braid on a heavy rod for frogging, jigs Andrew punching. What is a good quality braid that isn’t so expensive? Thanks!

Welcome!

Braid is a good choice for those techniques. It'll last for a long time, so go with the best you can afford. Cabela's house brand has served many of the folks I've instructed and the hi-vis color is awesome for detecting those bites you don't feel initially.  PowerPro is another I've recommended.

What do you consider expensive?

Take a look at Sufix and Pline tcb8

Original PowerPro is good, but I like Sufix Performance better.  It is quieter thru the guides.  Cost is a couple dollars more than KastKing...of which I have no experience with.

I haven't tried Kastking braid yet(waiting for winter to end), I received a spool when I purchased a reel. However based on Bluebasser's recommendation and the fact that you can get 65lb 8 strand on a 328yd spool for $15. Kastking sounds like a good alternative. None of the other mentioned brands come close to that.

I've had great luck with Daiwa J-Braid x8 (8 strand). You can get it on amazon for usually $16-18 depending on the day for 330 yards. It definitely doesn't fray as badly as any of the Spider Wires I've tried. Power Pro and Sufix 832 are also acceptable.
