coltsniper s1000xh

Featured Replies

Hi,

I'm new here and just started fishing. I bought Shimano coltsniper s1000xh 3 piece - max jig 120 grams, max plug 100 grams. The rod is very solid but it doesn't say how heavy fish I can land when standing 1 meter above water. Catching a big fish and braking the rod in the process is not very funny I guess. Would someone please advice on what to pay attention to before making judgement.

Thank you

Can you use a net?

Welcome aboard!

You can get some pretty long nets on the internet. Telescopic

models commonly used in long-pole fishing (carp, etc.) in Europe

and Asia.

Don't let the rod bend past 90 degrees and you should be good.

Thank you guys for your replies. I have a triangular telescopic folding net not very long but despite my wish I haven't  used it yet. 90 degrees makes sense, although adrenaline causes my brain stop functioning and wants to get to the fish as quickly as possible. Anyway, if you’ll find a time please see a YouTube piece created by Shimano https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QRnRLntikuA&t=474s. Ignore Japanese comments cause they’re meaningless. Skip to 7:07 time and start from there. In the box tackle is listed:
Rod: Colt Sniper S1000XH-3
Reel: Stella sw14000XG (almost $1000, mine is $95)
Line: Shimano OCEA EX8 braid 16 lbs.
Leader: Nylon 80 lbs. (I use fluorocarbon 80 lbs.)
Lure: Colt Sniper Rock Jerk 140S
Then at 8:44 he says ‘with next wave I’m landing it’ and he does it. His rod bends like an Ugly Stick! Here is a snapshot.

Slightly later on he shows his trophy which looks pretty heavy to me. Do you think the video shows what the rod is capable of or Shimano just took a chance and sacrificed the rod in order to fish me to the Shimano Mall?
Thank you
