I’m hoping to nail down duosnap techniques.

 

After an absence of a few years, I hope to get back to bass fishing this summer.  Due to neuropathery from chemo, I will probably use duosnaps as much as possible.  My assumption is that:

 

Duosnaps SHOULD work well with hard body, moving treble hook baits such as:

• Crankbaits
• Poppers
• Walk-the-Dog Topwaters
• Hard Jerkbaits

 

Duosnaps should NOT be used for bottom and single hook techniques such as:

• Jigs
• Weightless Plastics
• ShakeyHeads & Drop Shot
• Soft Jerkbaits and Swim Baits.

 

I’ll be sticking with spinning gear this summer.  Please correct me if my assumptions are off.  Thanks!!

 Glad to hear you are well enough for some fishing. In my opinion if snaps help you fish, then use them. They probably will work better for hard body baits, but could work for everything where the hook eye isn't buried.  Most of us of a certain age started fishing with garden worms and a snap of some kind was always used. We caught fish.

Only thing I use them for are deep cranks where I need to experiment with colors, size, noise etc. And usually once I dial it in I'll remove the snap and tie straight to the bait. Just can't bring myself to trust them completely.

This list is mostly accurate but could be simple.  Trebles snap single hook tie direct.  That's how I roll.

The baitmonkey thanks you.  4 of my 5 spinning rods are for bottom techniques. And...the remaining 2-piece is 9 or 10 years old.

I had one fail one time (opened up) and swore then I wouldn't use them again. 

Granted that was years ago, but I just don't trust them.

Use a snap for what ever you want, who cares!! You're fishin again, thats what matters the most!!

Use them on anything that will make fishing easier.  As a matter of fact, there are times when I use them on wightless worms. The snap keeps the bait from sliding up the line.

I use a duo lock snap for everything. Use the premium snaps like Mustad, Owner, and P-line, not the thin diameter. I have never had one fail. I use the size 1 or 1.5 and tie it with a palomar knot. Gonna give the Mustad Fastach Clip a try this year.

I use them for jerkbaits, spinnerbaits, crankbaits, and some topwaters.  Jigs and plastics get tied direct.

Iv used snaps for jigs, nothing wrong with it

I have used snap on everything, Fluke, Jig, fat Ika, Wacky, chatterbait you name it, especially when bank fish where I only bring one rod/reel with me. I know some techniques without snap would be better but I'm too lazy to tie and look for all terminal tackle for new lures. I alway bring some pre-rig where I can just switch between each lure with ease. If I go out on a boat with 4-5 rods, I'll avoid using snap on any slow presentation but use snap with faster moving and know that I'll change lure later.

 

P-line duo is pretty good but now I fall in love with tactical power angler clip, it a lot easier to switch lure than duo snap or even mustad fast tach clip.
