Lowrance Flasher

Featured Replies

I recently bought a '94 Javelin with an in dash Lowrance Flasher Unit.  I have never used a flasher before.  Do any of you have experience with adjusting the sensitivity and reading a flasher unit?

Thanks!

If it's a 1270 flasher with the light bulb you have the very best. The inside larger button has 2 clicks the first is 1 -40 ft. and the second is 1 - 80 or the inside scale. Sensitvity is the outside button or the smaller one . Turn to the right very slowly to increase. These old flashers are instant info, take a little to understand. I will be lost when mine breaks.

My new (old 1990) Bass Tracker has a console flasher that still seems to work.  My only experience with Flashers was when I was in college back in the late 60's. I'm happy to say that I never got caught.   ;D

Seriously, I have no idea how to use a flasher and would appreciate any input.  My unit has only one knob - On/Off/Sensitivity.

Well the Short And Long Mike is they all work the same. The newer LCD flashers ones have the same time delay as regular LCD's and they have no memory so for following weedlines or breaklines they are unbeatable.

If you are using it at speed say 30 mph and you watch the bottom reading go from 10 -15 ft over 5-6 seconds that may not be that big. If it drops 5ft quick that might be something. Your regular LCD is better than they use to be but by the time you see this break it will be way back. Your old fasher maybe 200 ft an new flasher 300ft and the LCD 1000ft this is at speed.

I've have all 3 of these models.

So if you using your flasher to fish.

Solid bottom reading with some width will be softer bottom.

Bottom reading but thin and double echo is hard bottom. So you will have bottom at 10ft and another at 20ft. I adjust my sensetivity to just get the second echo.

So if you know soft and Hard(rock) sand is in between.

Weeds will be thin lines coming off the bottom.

Boulders will be thicker lines or brighter lines just above the bottom.

I like running my flashers in pro/ams I get the young pups study the flasher.

Thanks Guys.  I really appreciate the help.

Long Mike if your flasher only has 1 on click but has outside scale and inside scale you watch as the flash goes around 1 full turn and then it's on the inside scale.

Thanks Garnet.  I noticed this on the maiden voyage last Sunday when we hit 50 ft. of water.  I was disappointed to find that the flasher didn't work when the boat was at speed.  Is there something I'm doing wrong?

Just try turning the senstivity up a bit. If that doesn't work have a look at your xduser location it might just need to be in the water a little more.
