Bass boat for saltwater use?

Does anyone take their bassboat in the ocean ?  I have a 19' tournament tx Tracker which I occasionly use in the intracoastal for Snook fishing.  I wanted to take it out for some dolphin and again lastnite for snapper but the wife freaked out when I told her I was headed out in nto the ocean.  I told her the seas were only 1-2' .  She said I shoulda bought a bigger boat and made me promise I wouldn't go.  I'm going..........Anyone else take theirs out?

The Atlantic and bass boats of any configuration do not mix. First, the electronic side of the boat, (wiring and such) is not designed to withstand the rigors of salt water. Second, there is always that little thought of safety issue, (staying alive). I have seen the ocean kick from 1-2 to 7-10 in less than 10 minutes, so I have to agree with the missus - not a place to play in a bass boat.

Your main concern would be weather, keep an eye on the sky  ;)

You can't clean the salt from all of your electrical, your boat will get Cancer! Ranger and others make a bass boat with no carpets and all stainless fixtures, upgraded electrical, etc. Intracostal maybe, outside is risky.

Double check on you electrical connections before you go out. Doesnt matter if the seas are only 1-2ft the salt water spree reaches everywhere. Also check your trolling motor mine is a Minn Kota that is specific that it cannot be used in or near salt water. The shaft is made out of Magnesium and will sure to corrode faster than you can say "OOOPS". I had a friend who took hit boat out in the ocean/tributary and the electrical components have never worked right since. Trolling Motor connection, Fuel gauge, Trim, Nav. Lights, Trailer Lights. Proceed with Caution.

Y'all ever crawl up under the console of a Kenner, Bay Stealth, NauticStar, Triton, Ranger, or Skeeter bay boat?

The wiring is no different than that found in most bass boats; there are no special coatings, no environmental seals, just plan ole wiring connectors.

Your so called freshwater outboard will be fine in saltwater; just flush it with freshwater when you get home & the same for your trolling motor.

lPa1nl what model Minn Kota do you have, I'm not aware of any that has a magnesium shaft. ;)

My Tracker , according to the sales person and prep team, said the mercury motor is the same for fresh or salt.  They said all fasteners and cleats are stainless.  They also said the wiring is no different than the 25' Mako.  I asked then why do they sell a saltwater version of the nitro and tracker.  Their reply was, only difference was one was carpeted and one was vinyl.  I swapped the stock T/M for a salt water Minn Koto...
