Fluorocarbon line

Featured Replies

I just recently picked up some fluorocarbon line fire the first time. Seaguar 20lbs. I was wondering when is the best time to spool it up and best way to store it because I still have about two months until I actually start fishing this year, and to note I haven’t even opened the package yet. This is the first time I have ever purchased and will use fluorocarbon line so storing ideas and how soon is to soon to spoil it would be much appreciated.

I’d spool it right like right before you go fishing, a day or two. Fluorocarbon gets coiled badly. This thread should be in the Fishing Line,... btw. Fluoro doesn’t breakdown in UV like mono does. I don’t know if this will help with Fluoro but if you put mono in hot water while spooling, it looses the line up and reduces coils, you could probably try it with fluorocarbon.

Some DC have more memory than others.

Given most leave the previous years line on the reels, I don't think a month or two is really going to matter.

Regardless, I would condition with line conditioner while spooling and the night before you go out.

I got the 20lbs. For confidence, lol. If I hook up with a bigger fish or get snagged then I can get the fish in or get my lure back.

I’m new to bass resource so navigating and finding answers doesn’t always work for me so I just ask.

Tried to see where your located to determine size of fish and cover.  If your pb is 3lbs and you live up north where the cover is lite you may want some liter line that will handle a little better.  Fluorocarbon birds nest the easiest and if kinked will ruin that section of line.  How are you using this 20.

I see the OP is from MA and me thinks 20lb is over-kill and will be difficult to fish.

The BPS classic sail starts tomorrow and would be a good opertunity pickup some lower test line
