01' 225 Optimax Oil Alarm

Featured Replies

I have an 01' Champion 203 and an 01' 225hp. Optimax. A few days ago my oil light lit up upon cranking the boat and started beeping. I checked the oil and it was kind of low, so I just made a short run (a mile or two) and fished. I then came back loaded up the boat and went and got some DFI oil. I filled the tank in the hull, a little past the line. Next day oil alarm sounded upon start up, then shut off. I went fishing about 2 hours later in the middle of a run, oil alarm and light came on, I stopped shut motor down, and called dealer. He had me check the tank on the motor and it was a little more than 3/4 full. He said all should be OK then. I was still worried, so I loaded up the boat and came back to house. Any ideas? I don't want to ruin this motor..... Is this a false alarm or what?

** All caps are TIGHT, DFI has been run through motor since begining.

Thanks,

Zack

Zack,

Add oil to the tank on the motor. That is where the sensor is and it can be touchy to level.

my father is laws sensor kept sticking. He ran it low on oil and after that could not get the sensor to clear. He had a new sensor put in and that ifxed it.

Since the oil tas run low the float might be stuck. On my old Suzuki the oil tank is on the motor. one time the oil went a little lower than I would ussially let it, and the oil metter showed low and buzzer sounded. Put oil in the tank and the oil gauge would not show full, could not figure out why. Here the oil float that is in the tank got stuck. Stuck a long srew driver in the tank and tapped the float and it came right up to the surface and the gauge now showed full. This happen twice

Those oil  tank sensors can be screwy regardless of the brand. The one on my yamaha failed to read the tank was full and never told the pump to quit pumping.  It was popping the thing right of of the tank and then oil would overflow into the engine compartment.  I had an oil slick following me wherever I went till I figured out what was going on.

Well first things first dont buy a mercury buy an EVINRUDE LOL  ;D....... put the oils stright to the tank on the motor an it will get it to the sensor an should turn it off if not an u know that the motor is getin oil time to take it to a mercury dealer an tell them FIX IT!!!!! lol
