6th Sense Flat 75X and SK 1.5 as example

Featured Replies

Only been fishing squarebills for 2 yrs, but I fish 2 to 4 times a wk. So my wormin SB through brush is still in its infancy lol. The 75X and honestly a lot of their hardbaits along w other co.'s hooks are what I consider big. This bait gets hung extremely easy through stumps let alone brush piles. I know the pros especially KVD says he goes bigger on the hooks? Is that to sell us more baits, seriously. I'm goin smaller on the 75X And SK 1.5 to experiment. Now I could be wrong, maybe the flat sided 75X is to be fished like a lipless over grass flats. But in their explanation for it they say deflects off cover. Think the SK 1.5 comes with 4s on it I'm gonna try 6s all the way around. I know guys run a 4 in the front and 6 on back. Just like pros that run a Ratltrap w one hook on the front. I think it's more important to be able to run it through cover and get bites then worry about bigger hooks so they don't come unbuttoned. U gotta hook em first and today's hooks r so sharp. So what do u SB guys think, do, know lol thanks.

I very rarely fish  the flat side crush or a 1.5 plastic bait through brush or near stumps. when fishing wood and brush and sparse grass, I almost always use a WEC E1/E2, Bagley Balsa B1/B2, and a PH customs balsa squarebills. They are more buoyant even with larger hooks, they "hunt" better, and deflect really well. I will fish the LC BDS2 around shallow grass as well.

Are you fishing with EWG hooks? I ordered the 75X in custom bluegill and was a little surprised at how big it was. Haven't had any luck on it. I do really well with the 1.5s though, especially the chartreuse variants. I recommend the new Brat 06 too, great bait and the "balsa" let's it bounce out of a lot of heavy cover.
