DIY Kayak Seat

Featured Replies

I have a Vibe Kayaks Skipjack 90 and that particular model comes with the basic strap in seat found on lower end kayaks. That said, I've seen more than a few guys make DIY raised seats, sometimes from stadium seats, that will accommodate kayaks that don't have dedicated/proprietary raised seats as part of their package.

Does anyone here have any ideas or options they've tried themselves?

Thanks

I am whatever you call the opposite of a DIY'er....but, my boat throw-cusion tossed onto my yak seat is a winner!

I'm a DIYer, big-time. :)

Just a quick search I found this. Not specifically your Vibe,

but interesting.

I would NOT recommend anchoring a seat to the scuppers.

I wouldn't either, to me the vid is a starting point for a DIY

solution to the Vibe seat.

There's also a simple raising of the seat via closed cell foam

cutouts.

I think the starting point in the video would be using heat,

bends, in the PVC to create a molded solution. Or skip the

heat and just build a wider platform, straps, etc., to raise

the butt off the floor a tad.

What's the width (interior seat floor area) of your yak?

Was looking at Vibe site and noticed they have a seat

that is a look-a-like of Native's First Class seat, the Vibe

Hero seat.

At the bottom of the page it says "goes well with" and

the Vibe deluxe seat is there, making me think it might

fit yours?

Right there with you.  I have too many left thumbs that always get in the way - the term "klutz" comes to mind.

A buddy once mounted a stadium seat he bought at Dick’s Sporting Goods in his kayak. He said it was very comfortable.

I don’t recall which seat he used or which one might fit in your kayak, but this one looks comfy:
