Gas Struts for Rod Locker and Battery Compartment

Featured Replies

Hey Guys,

I have an older Nitro that did not come with any gas struts for holding rod lockers or battery compartments open. I was wondering has anyone retrofitted their boat's compartments with these if so would mind giving me some pointers or tips on how. Thanks in advance.

You can find them at most boat dealers, if not, BassCat boats has them on their website.   Just google basscat boats and that should get you there.

Installation should be easy with no pre-existing holes.   For boats that have had old shocks stripped out, I have seen guys make a 4x4 inch plate to cover old holes and mount new plate on lid for new metal surface to screw into.

Matt.

I haven't had to replace any on my boat but I did have some go bad on a tool box once.  The replacements were very high so I went to an auto parts store and bought them for less than 1/2 of what the box people wanted.

I'm installing the same thing on my old 84 Champion. Best price and selection i've found so far is at http://www.boatpartstore.com/accesssearch.asp?cat=itemname&cval=1&hval=67&val=96. Still trying to figure out mounting. :-/

Just found the ATTWOOD site - http://www.attwoodmarine.com/products/gassprings/gas_springs_and_accessories.asp?category=7&path=gassprings&categoryname=Gas+Springs+and+Accessories&headername=Gas+Springs+and+Accessories

Good info on mounting methods and types of brackets.
