Cold
It's the same here in North Alabama - freezing drizzle/snow. Hang in there - next week temps should rise into the mid 60's - lows high 40's. I smell prespawn.

Pickwick Road Trip
Pitchinkid - yes, I have plans to be there several days. I'm only about 60 miles from Pickwick Lodge so I not sure if I'll stay - hate to miss out on the fun though! I may bring a tent and stay a few days especially Weds. night. Looking forward to seeing some faces from Guntersville & meeting a few more members. Rick

anybody familar with Bear creek lakes(4) in north Al.?
I fish Cedar Creek 6 or 7 times a year. All these lakes are clear water lakes. Upper Bear is an excellent largemouth & spotted bass lake. The spotted bass have become so prevalent that they are requesting that you harvest all smaller spots you catch. Rattletraps, cranks, spinnerbaits and senko's will all produce well in April. Look for warmer water areas. Cedar Creek has a lot of standing timber in 30' & shallower water. Largemouth fishing is good but the crappie fishing is fantastic. Cedar is a deep lake but numerous humps show up in the middle of the lake (the same is true on Upper Bear). Make sure you have a good topo map as some of these humps contain prop busting stumps. You will be in 70' one minute and 5' the next. Checkout the numerous old roadbeds with cranks & spinners. Both of these lakes have produced 10lb+ Florida strain largemouth. Bear Creek lake is not in good shape right now due to the rebuilding of the dam. I believe Little Bear has also been down lately. Good luck!

Alabama/Texas It's Time To Start This Thread
Alabama's controlled chaos defense should sit McCoy & Co. on their a--. Three or four sacks & two interceptions by Bama. Then, if the McElroy of the Florida game shows up, Bama wins 27-14. If he doesn't, Bama still wins 17-14 on the back of the running game.

Pickwick Trip
I too have caught a couple of yellow perch in & around the Waterloo area of the main river, one, this past fall. Rare, but they are out there.

Charlie Weis' successor
The signing deadline should be extend to March relieving some of the recruiting pressure and a rule of hands off coaches until after their final bowl game. What if Cinn. had made the National Championship? NCAA should fix this ASAP!

WHO MADE ALL THOSE RECORDS: BEHIND THE SOUL SOUND
I had the privilege of doing some electrical work for Rodger Hawkins here in Muscle Shoals. Great guy, amazing stories! Unfortunately, for him & the music world, he has developed Tinunitus and can't play the drums any longer.

What kind?
It would be easier to indentify with the mouth closed. Did the bottom lip stop short or even of the eyes. It would be a rare find in south AL.!

What kind?
Looks like a smallmouth from the color.

So I'm better off to purchase a non-resident Ala. license rather than a Tenn. if I'm wanting to fish all portions of the lake? I'm curious if you can answer this. I see a couple ramps in yellow creek that are about 10-15 miles from the lodge in Mississippi. If I launch there I can legally fish with an Alabama non-resident lic? As I read the Tenn. license restrictions, Yellow Creek upstream of Hwy 25 bridge, which is in Mississippi & Bear Creek (AL/MISS) is off limits. The majority of Yellow Creek is legal for Tenn. licensees. None of Bear Creek is nor is anything upriver of Bear Creek. I found no mention of restrictions covering where you decide to launch from. I have never had Marine police or Game wardens check me in the Miss./Tenn area but my experience with Alabama has been that they were more interested in safety and boating license than fishing license. Nonresidents are exempt from the boating license. This link shows http://www.outdooralabama.com/fishing/freshwater/where/reservoirs/pickwick/reciprocal.cfmthe area covered by the Miss. agreement and, with the exclusion of Bear Creek, would also be the Tenn agreement. There is another 25 miles of river past the boundary shown.

I failed to mention that a nonresident license from Alabama is good for all of Pickwick also. http://www.outdooralabama.com/fishing/freshwater/where/reservoirs/pickwick/ Scroll down to the Links section. A link to info on obtaining licenses online is also available. The Tenn license does not cover the Bear Creek & Yellow Creek areas. This reservoir stretches 50 miles from Pickwick to Wilson Dam. If you wish to fish the area below Pickwick Dam a Tenn license would be needed.
