beeping

Featured Replies

i have a murcury 135 hp motor, seems to run great, but sometimes when i crank my boat, i start getting a beeping sound. didnt seem to effect the running of the motor, so i usually dont worrie about it. but when i was getting ready to load the boat up last night , the beeping became continual beeeeeeeeeee ing sound.  my battery was low, but my oil and gas all seem fine and i had not warning lights on. i'm sure there is a simple answer, i'm just a nubie,  does anyone have any ideas?

Sometimes those beepers go off if the oil in the OB oil reservoir gets low. This can happen if it's low and you tilt the engine. Sometimes that sets it off.

i'll know tonight. i just top the oil off. hope thats all it is.. it was about 3/4 full.

I'm not for sure but I thought that a beeping alarm was the oil injection system and a long continual alarm was a overheat alarm.

If you had oil in the res., check the wires to the cap. I just had to replace the cap and wires for similar reasons. The insulation had split open due to unscrewing the cap a few times over the years causing a short on the low oil alarm... unfortunately the cap and wires are sold as a single part. The rocket scientist that assembled my motor, didn't think to pre twist the cap a few turns in the opposite direction so when it was installed it twisted the wire up almost into a knot. :-/

:o well i guess  topping the oil off helped, because after i top off the oil and took it out, i didnt have anymore beeps, i didnt run it long enough for it to over heat today, i guess, i only ran it for 20 min.  i didnt read the reply about overheating untill i got back, maybe in a couple days i'll run it for 1 hr., that should tell me if its overheating. i'll  also check the wires to the res. cap. thanks :)

It sounds like the oil gauge. a motor can over heat in a minute or so. so running it for 20 mins is way more for time to be up to running temp.
