Which line is on my reel?

I bought a used reel. Seller does not know type of line. I am just trying to figure out Mono or flouro. Not brand or test. Any way to do this? ty

The important question is not what type of line it is but how old is the line?

It would look almost the same if it were mono, copoly or fluoro.  Dump it and get fresh.

I would respool it with what I wanted regardless, but if you can tie a knot that holds, it's probably mono.

It's trash line.  Put on new

Most of copolymer sink, my old bps XPS premium monofilament also sink, go figure. If the line is the size you want on the reel, and no visible damage, and the line still look clear not murky (you can do pull test), then you can re-spool inside out and use conditioner to help out with the coil. If it is too much problem the re-spool with brand new line.

If you need the line you could just use it till you get the chance to pick up another spool. Probably good line?

Even if it's a money issue, you will be much happier with new line.  Get some Big game for a few bucks, spool it up, go fish.  Less than 10 bucks and you ain't worried about your line snapping due to age or having so much memory that it's impossible to use
