Is anyone having any luck at White River the section closer to downtown Indy?

Featured Replies

Looking for any tips or suggestions about bank fishing this time of year @ white river inside white river state park nearby the Indy zoo I have been looking to get into some flatties I have been using live bait such as shiner minnows and medium to large size gold fish setup is a three oz no roll sinker set up as a Carolina rig. I tend to do pretty well in the summer months July August there catching smallies crappie channels this year I want to find a big flattie TIA.. Also if anyone knows where I can check depth chart of white river I would greatly appreciate it.

Would at least like to say welcome to another Hoosier.  Wish I could be more help but honestly I'd just be winging it. Years ago I fished around Washington St. without much success. I know you're interested in cats but I have heard mention of great bass fishing in that area.  With the EPA sewer project progressing the White might really take off.

Welcome aboard!

I've never fished that area of the river before but know people that do.  There's a bait shop close to where you're talking about called West Side bait and tackle.  I'm sure they can help put you on the flatheads as well as help you find those deep river holes.

Definitely check with Westside B&T. Those guys would know. I've never really heard of many flatheads through that stretch for whatever reason. More commonly they seem to be caught south of Indy near the Martinsville stretch. A lot of carp fishing though in that downtown stretch, along with some good bass fishing. There's a couple really deep holes just further up near the top of that stretch that might be worth checking out.
