Shad rod (noodle rod) for the Delaware

Featured Replies

What are you using as a shad rod for the Delaware?  Anyone using a noodle rod to launch darts/flutter spoons out there?  If so, what kind?  Thanks and best wishes on the water!

For years I used an 8 ft rod that I guess you could call a noodle rod. Never really defined it as that. Its really good at casting flutter spoons and darts a good distance. Got it at a bait & tackle shop outside of Allentown. Unfortunately the b&t is gone now. Couldn't tell you what brand it was. I'm sure you can pick one up just like it at Cabela's or BPS.

Any L or M spinning rid should work.  I use a 7' MM Skeet Reese spinning combo that I got from DSG for about$35 a few years ago.  I tie a 1/8  to 1/4 oz spoon with a shad dart about 12 inches above.  Casts a mile and doubles not uncommon.

You might take a look at the B n' M rod line up. They have several in the "Float n' Fly" category (smallmouth rods) that should work perfectly for shad fishing. Cost effective too. Check them out at Grizzly Jig Company online.

Used what they called "noodle rods" out west for steelhead.  They ran from 9 1/2 to 11 1/2 feet or so.  My favorite was a 9 1/2 with 6 lb test.  Used it a lot for shad out there too and was a blast.  I liked the length due to the fact I could hold more line off the water in current.  Lamiglas and Loomis were the brands I used at the time.

Good luck
