Small craft bass fishing

Featured Replies

I''m sure most people have seen these 2 person plastic bass hunters or Crawdads that are aimed at small budget or small water bass guy. I was think about getting this small 11'6" boat for myself or me and my bro to take out on local ponds.

Its about 250 lbs. and has a lot of great features as seen on the website. A live well (probably not too big, but would be good to keep bait in, pre wired for electronic, bettery and storage compartments.

Its $2700 brand new with free shipping to the lower 48. Thats for the boat and trailer. I'm thinking this would be a good investment since I could take the boat out by myself, which I cant do with my aluminum one I load out of my truck bed(needs two people to do it). This will definately up my skill level as I'll get familiar with reading the fish/depth finder and finding underwater structure. I'll also be able to use more techniques fishing from a boat rather than from shore. Get to cover more water, find more fish, etc.

I figure after throwing on a fairly priced fish finder and a trolling motor on the front I'll be in business.

Does anyone have or know someone who has this boat or a similair small craft like it. If so, is it worth the money? I could buy this new, or get an old boat trailer combo from the want ads.

Way to much!!

My 1997 12 foot Grumman, Evinrude 4 horse deluxe, MK 50 pound bow mount motor, eagle 320 fishfinder, and all the extras cost less than 1100 bucks.  I would recommend getting an aluminum jon, or vee, with a trailer, and a Johnson or Evinrude 2 stroke, 2 cylinder outboard, and if bought used, you will spend less.  You could really splurge for 2700 bucks.  The whole boat, trailer, outboard, TM, sonar, and all the extras should be a lot less.  Plus, the plastic boats have a lot of disadvantages anyway.

Is it the price or is it the small size you are looking for.... If it is the price you can find some awesome aluminum bass boats out there for that money.... I looked and looked and finally found my 1st bass boat at a great price... It is a 17 ft. bass tracker with a 70 hp evinrude motor, 45 LB. trolling motor, 2 depth finders, and in great condition and paid $2300 for it....... I got it off of a local tournament fisherman that just wanted to get it out of his way since he just got a new 20 ft. ranger....Personally I just can't see paying  that much for something like that when it doesn't even come with a motor... Just my opinion though.... If that is something like you are wanting though you can probably find a pretty good price on a used one if you looked around a little bit...

Its more the price, I'm in college and wait tables at a local restaurant part time. The job pays well, and hopefully can save a good amount of money before next bass season. I may just buy a trailer for my 12' aluminum row boat so I can load and unload it myself. I don't know anyone that really like fishing as much as I do. This means getting up early fishing all day around 6 hours, and not complaining the whole time, or hating everyminute of it. The boat I have is only like 100 lbs, and the wind really plays a toll on it. I was thinking about getting one of those drift socks to slow the drift. You think that would put off bass? I think those things might be for more open water fishing.

I'll save what I can, and look around beginning of spring and maybe something better will come up. I dont wanna put all my eggs in one basket as the saying goes. I did think that price was steep, didn;t even come with an outboard either.

You should be able to pick up a used trailer for $300.  A Jet Ski trailer will work.  A used 9.9 hp or similar for $500.  Fuel tank and hose $50.  New fish finder $150.  New trolling motor $150.  Deep cycle battery $80.  Battery charger with auto shut off and trickle charge $60.  Registering your trailer & boat and putting hull numbers on it $30.  5 gallon bucket and battery aerator pump $15

Total $1335

Let me know if I left something out.

For $2700, you could get your self avery nice 10 to 14 foot jon boat rig very nice.  IMHO $2700 is quiet a bit of money to invest in a plastic boat rig.  It may be a good boat but thatn is just too much money

CGH

another thing to look into is a used 13' gheenoe.  they are small and if you look around you can find a good one for about 2700 with trailer, motor, etc.  They are extremely stable and are great to fish from.  search on craigslist.com to try and find stuff in your area.

If you search well you can score a better deal and have a better outfit.  You could also run across a trailer for 100 bucks or less for the boat you already have. The resale on a plastic boat would really bite if you wanted to upgrade later.

Like the others have said, that's too much money

for a plastic boat.   I'd go with your other idea of

looking for a used boat in the want ads. There are

tons of good deals out there.

I got my rig in 2002 (boat, 50 hp mariner, galvanized trailer) for

$2200.  It needed cosmetic work  (new decks, carpet, and seats)

but it ran A+.

Five years later and I'm glad I went this route and I'm

sure you will be too if you take some time to find

yourself the right setup.
