  1. Better off with a trailer. It will save your back immensely. And with a trailer you can leave gear in the boat. Saves time and work.
  2. covers help. After the rain your boat and equipment are nice and dry. I got one from Wal mart and its been on there almost a year. no leaks and looks like new.
  3. If it is legal in that state nobody has a right to say anything. What this boils down to is people trying to impose their beliefs on others. If the lake is overpopulated you have a bunch of skinny dink fish. If they don't have enough to eat won't their growth be stunted? I can see catch and release a good idea for the professional circuit where they catch a lot and have so many competitors. The average Joe out here fishing is not gonna hurt the fishery. I hear a lot of weird things like bass aren't good to eat, they should be put back and eat a bluegill or a crappie. This doesn't seem to me to be active conservation. If we are worried about conservation why not get in touch with the state biologist. They get paid the big bucks to figure out what we should do.
  4. Take measurements of the boat, then go buy a flatbed trailer to fit.
  5. He fishes for trout with another rod so he knows how to catch other fish. He pays $6 for parking and $4 for permit each and every time he fishes there. $10 can buy you fish dinner! Regardless, If I see him catch a big fish with eggs i will say something. If the place is charging a fee for fishing they can afford to put fish back in. Leave the old guy alone there is nothing worse than someone trying to tell you how to do what you do for fun. My granddad always fished for food. That is why I fail to see anything wrong with it.
  6. I may not be with the majority but, any legal fish I catch is usually ingested as it makes great table fare. If the fellow is eating the fish It will never make sense to him to throw 'em back.
  7. They make the whole kit for the intake all you would have to do is drill your hole and install. You might also think about a timer switch for it to save battery life. Your outlet you will want to leave room at the top so you don't slosh so much. This whole thing could also be done to a large cooler for a portable on boats that don't come equipped Hope this helps.
  8. I have had good luck with calcutta 2" frogs, they have tails that flip and give good action. also works well for bass. Small inline spinners work well too. As well as jigs. One of the largest bass I have ever caught was on the frog with 4# test.
  9. I have gotten in trouble before on moss covered concrete ramps./ 4wd did keep me out of the lake. I won't tell you to trade trucks, just watch how far you get your wheels in the water. That being said most of the folks I know that have a boat use a 2wd truck to pull them.
  10. I have attempted to catch bass out of the ohio several times without success. The things that work for me in the lakes around here just don't apply there :-/. I usually put in at Aberdeen. I have had success with live bait and catfish. But, that just aint bass fishing.
  11. They make rods for welding aluminum that you heat with a propane torch that might be an option. I have heard that it makes great welds and strong.
  12. 4 strokes require oil changes. Either you would hafta change it yourself or pay somebody to do it. That sounds like down time and hastle to me. I'd rather mix it.
  13. I think you're right on both counts. I've been told that Royalex is virtually indestructible and I know Kevlars cost twice as much. But I bought a Kevlar (Wenonah Fisherman) this spring. I felt I had no choice, as it had to be ultralight or I couldn't buy anything. At my age there's no way I can carry around and hoist onto a roof rack a 55# boat. How is the fisherman working for you.
  14. If you search well you can score a better deal and have a better outfit. You could also run across a trailer for 100 bucks or less for the boat you already have. The resale on a plastic boat would really bite if you wanted to upgrade later.
  15. I've been ordering my parts from Crowley Marine. They have lookup on the puter. You can look it up yourself and they ship Fedex and fast. Shipping is high but, The part I ordered I was told by a professional was an ungettable part. Was very impressed with them. Good luck. I have had an experience with that shop I was told my little motor needed broke down and seals put in. by the other shop down the road. I took it to them for a second opinion and they could have got the work but, they told me the truth. I do however believe most shops don't like to sell parts unless they can install and get the labor charge.
