I am looking at getting a dawia Zillion SV TWS and matching with a 7 foot M.H. st. Croix Avid. This is the 1st time iv not gotten some cheapish combo already made. I would like to be able to fish a little variety of tackle but nothing over 5/8 - 3/4 most fishing would be like bass and a few muskie when they chose to hit 

sounds good.

 

My first decent combo was a Daiwa Tatula CT00H and St Croix MojoBass 7' MH. I love it. So I would imagine that combo will perform better than what im using.

Iv never spent more then 150 or so but know you get what you buy this will be around 500 so tbh I'm scared of hating it or it not working for what I want lol 

Can’t help with the rod but a lot of folks like St. Croix. You will enjoy that reel, once you dial it in it is a pleasure to fish with. Make sure you look around for pricing as you can always find them less than retail for a new reel. 

Only thing I would say is to see if you can’t put it together in store to see how it balances. I have an ltb by St. Croix love the rod, it is tip heavy though but personally I don’t mind it.

I am gonna try to have it shipped to store so I can I don't mind if its heavy some long as it is nice like all seem to say in every review I can find :-D

I assume the rod has a Fast action.  6'6"-7' MHF and 6'6"-7' MF are often touted as good all around rods.  I'm sure you already know both the rod and reel you have chosen are highly thought of by most.  Use the combo for everything until you reach a point that you want a technique specific rod.  Obviously it wouldn't be a first choice for some treble hook lures, but line choice and a lighter drag setting will still let the rod be useable for them.

 

You have chosen an excellent combo.  Good luck with it. 

I'm sorry I actually don't know why I couldn't be used for lures? I assume u mean like jurk baits? Atm I have a pinnecala  dead bolt. Like I said cheap lol but I throw everything from spinners to jurk baits down to bigger soft  baits if the wind is low. Iv fished for years but am all self thought and didn't have the funds to do upgrade to this point until recently so there is so much still to learn it seems

Or do u mean more along the line the size of fish? As u say something about line and drag? Drag I can work and normally run sunline braid or suffix braid

I said TREBLE HOOK lures.  A MHF rod is not a good choice for lures with smaller treble hooks.  Rods from some companies run heavier than the norm.  St. Croix is one of those companies.  This doesn't help when using a lure with smaller treble hooks.  The rod's power can tear the hooks out.  A nylon line and/or lower drag settings can help keep this from happening.

 

EDIT:  Since you will be using braid, just keep the drag a bit lower than you normally would for single hooks when using treble hook lures.  Your landing percentage may not be as high as it would be for a more forgiving rod, but it is still doable.  Won't take you long to figure it out. 

 

Obviously a large fish and small hook is going to be the worst scenario.

I may look into the med then I was going with MH. Not knowing they may be stiffer I fish lots of weeds and heavy cover from log jams to trees and rocks as well as under water weed beds and pads and have had the med. Action from Walmart I have now just bow right down to them even as line is ripping off

If there is a better option I can look into in one to looking at them. I use a lot of f11and bigger rapalas and smitwick style baits as well as 3/8 to 3/4 spinners, hard top water baits and frogs and would absolutely love to be able to throw my flukes on it. I read it can be done  with the reel with no weight witch I fish that a lot but I know that'll take alot practice on my part even if the set up will do it 

I have that reel and really like it. I like St. Croix but the Avid isn't one of my favorites, mainly because I don't like the full handle, but if it's comfortable to you they are nice rods. 

Man that is a tall order if you are using treble presentations as well and you want it for heavy cover?  I’d stick with the Medium Heavy at least and use your other setups if you still have them for trebles.

Let me be clear, if you’re regularly fishing heavy cover getting a Medium Power rod isn’t a good idea.  I wouldn’t fish jerkbaits, especially river fishing with anything above a Medium power.  What I’m saying is to fish all those presentations it is unlikely to pick a Medium power only or MH power because it wouldn’t be advisable each technique with one rod.  The MH would be too powerful for river jerkbait fishing and Medium powered rod may not be a good idea in heavy cover.  You are going to need two setups.
