Medium heavy fast action rod techniques

Featured Replies

Hi, i was looking at a st croix rod yesterday. It was a 7’1” medium heavy power with a fast action. I was wondering what techniques is this rod power and action best for? Thanks!

Everything except lightweight and treble hook lures. Very versatile length, power, and action

That's a super rod for searching open water with big spinnerbaits.

It’s also ideal for jigs, worms and working heavy cover.

Also excels when presenting heavier hook swimjigs & paddletail swimbaits.

It will handle the above mentioned techniques well. I've matched one of mine to a curado 70 with light braid and use it for weightless flukes, senkos and trick worms and love it. The other I have matched to a slightly larger reel spoiled with floro and use it for t rigs, small Carolina rigs, jigs and a variety of moving baits.
