Carpet Adhesive Needed

Featured Replies

Took the boat out this weekend and filled up the gas tank and forgot to put the cap back on the gas tank. :-[ Some spilled on the carpet on the way to the lake. Anyway, the carpet came loose from the deck due to the gas. I need an adhesive that bonds with an aluminum surface after I clean all the gas residue off. What do you guys suggest? I posted a couple of pics below so you could see what I was talking about. Thanks in advance!!

Normal side with no gas leakage

that makes two of us.  It should work well for that application.  Make sure the aluminum is very clean.

I used 3M Contact cement for my livewell cover. It is a steel door. It worked great. On wood, I used outdoor carpet adhesive from Lowes. You can wrap edges really well with 3M contact cement.

Outdoor carpet adhesive is what I used when I did the floor and casting deck on my 1548MV john....wood and aluminum, it all stuck well.

Just thought I would let everyone know Cart's suggestion worked very well.  I put it on this evening and it looks like nothing ever happend.  There is no way that carpet is coming loose again!!!!  Thanks again for the help guys. :o

3M contact cement.  Apply to both surfaces and let dry, Reapply and let it get tacky(it shouldnt stick to your fingers when it is ready) and bond both pieces using something to roll over the carpet like a weight of somekind.  Remember contact cement sticks the first time you touch it together(you cannot move it after it sticks) so make sure before you touch the 2 pieces together you have it where it is going to be.  Dont! pull the carpet back up after it sticks or you will pull the fibers out of the carpet backing.
