livewell and boat help please

Featured Replies

Hello guys Im in need of some help. I purchased this boat that guy used for duck hunting and removed the livewell . He plugged the bottom hole with a plastic plug and i bumped it on a underwater stump and busted it . I would eventually like to find a livewell to use but for now i would like a way to plug the hole . I thought about a 1" bolt with two washers and nut with silicone covering the bolt . Im not sure of the boat company who made it and here is my questions .

1. can anyone tell by the boat who makes it .

2. what would be the easiet and sturdiest way to plug hole without welding the hole back up

Hmmm, you could try the bolt with some silicone might just work. You might want to take a look at JB weld HD/Lowes, comes in a tube smear it on and holds tight. Of course I used it on my gutters on the house, it works  the seams don't leak anymore. Anything you try I would'nt take it off the trailer until your sure she's leak proof.  Best of  Luck.

Yes I was going to put jb weld on it also I mjsut dont want it to come out , Should that hold though?

Nice jon boat!

Do you have any more close up pics? This one is hard to tell what kind it is from that pic. You should be able to find a plug and some silicone to plug up the hole. Take a picture of the hole so we can see it if possible.

Do NOT use JB weld!  It's becomes ridgid, and aluminum flexes.  You'll end up weakening the aluminum AROUND the JB weld as the hull flexes, and eventually it will split around it.

Use Sikaflex 292 instead.  It's awesome stuff that seals to perfection, yet is still flexible enough that it won't damage your hull. Used it on my aluminum boat (when I had one) to stop leaks and never had to worry about it again.

Glenn, can you tell me what major retailers sell Sikaflex?  I went to the Sika site, but they don't mention any distributors.

Boaters' World is where I got it.  I don't know if they have it in their online store.  I actually went into a retail store and got it there.  I've seen it at small local marine shops too, so look in your favorite shop, or let your fingers do the walking.  Chances are they'll special order it if they don't have it on the shelves.  Best 10 bucks I ever spent.
