Sorry, this is probably a repetitive question on here, but alas, here goes...

 

I want to do more jig fishing this year. They've always intimidated me so I've avoided them. My question is, what style of jig head do I use on rocky and sometimes sandy river bottom for dragging, and what style of jig head do I use to break through heavy grass?

 

Also, what's a good starting point for jig head and trailer size for LMB in a grassy pond, and then for SMB in the rocky river? What should the trailer length generally be in comparison to the jig head size?

If you're looking for one jig to handle all, an arky style jig would work.  But you'll soon discover there are better heads for each of the four situations you describe.

For rocky, use a football jig head.

CADMAN, who is on this very site makes a nice grass jig. You can see some on his website and FB. I bought some and they do a really good job of coming through grass & weeds without fouling. That's mostly what I fish around. It's like an Arky head with a vertical line tie.
