Mercury Optimax

Featured Replies

Hello again all! I was wondering if it will be okay to run a Mercury Optimax in the Potomac. I have not fished there in two years and that was not on my personal boat. I have no idea how the water is near Ft. Belvoir...(Saltwater, freshwater, brackish, etc.). Any insight on how to fish that river and if the Optimax will have any problems afterwards? (water-wise). Thanks!

What are your concerns?  The brackish water?  If so, there's no problem.  You should be more worried about dinging a prop than water damage.  If you are concerned, you can always hook the motor up to a hose and flush it out when done.  I fish the river on a very regular basis and have no problems.

So the brackish water will not do any damage to the outboard? That's my only concern and I don't want to risk anything

Not at all.  -0- worries.  You are good to go.

Good to hear. Also will the boat be okay putting in at Pohick Bay Regional Park? I have not been there but I know there is a ramp. I don’t want it to be too shallow

Pohick is fine.
