rig up 3 identical rods/reels for the techniques for the day and know I’ll get the same feel for each cast.

They must be some more current models because at one time you could buy 3 Kistlers of the same model/action/power and wind up with blanks from 3 different manufacturers, none feeling remotely close to one another.

I will argue that you might miss/lose more fish with a cheaper rod.  If the destination is catching a fish, then the analogy fails.

Let's correct the analogy. A Honda will get you to your destination, a Ford might break down before it gets there at all, and a BMW will get you there with a car full of hot women (but you're still an *******).

Thanks for feedback.  I don't fish enough to spend over $200 for a combo, but I also want to feel the bite and catch as many fish as possible.  Seems like the $90-$140 is the sweet spot for a quality rod without breaking the bank and there are tons of rods in this price range.  Time to do some research.  Any suggestions for a good shallow and medium diving cranking rods as well as worm/jig are welcomed.

Phenix Feather line - the price point on these rods for what you get is a game changer.  They're super light (2.4-3.6 ounces) and strong (on the Medium Light they hang tested 5kg(~12 lbs) hanging from the tip.

Off Topic Warning! Not always true, lol.  From my home town..

Like a car, buy what you can afford and won't regret after purchase or in this case a day on the water. Never compromise on hobbies IMO, enjoy life, and make sure you spend enough to keep your hobby enjoyable. I max out on $250 rods and reels combo including line because I think this is a good quality threshold and keeps my wife happy. She still doesn't get why I need multiple set ups lol. The bait monkey is another story.

When I was in elementary school, I watched a brand Lambo catch fire in front of the school

I was wondering about this exact subject myself the other day.  I went on a couple of the sites that sell all the blanks, guides etc.  I spent a couple hours pricing out different combinations of guides and such on just a couple different blanks.

It was a real eye opener on how much guides change the price of a build.  You could  take a blank that is say 70 bucks and turn it into a 100 dollar build or a 200 dollar build with just guide options alone.  Thats before getting into all the options of cork and such.  It was interesting to do and probably worth the exercise on your part to see.
