Like the title says.  Interested in whether or not Daiwa has a replacement for the Procyon.  Review I read claims it was as good as some $300 reels. Very good drag and handled 8# fluorocarbon like other reels handle 6# mono.  Begs the question why Daiwa dropped it.

TW has only had the 4000 model for some time.  Many other stores only have the 4000 although smaller sizes can be found.  Not really looking to buy another spinning reel at this time.  It would require me buying another rod. 

 

I was curious as to what Diawa planned to replace the Procyon with.  Also why they dropped it since it seems to be a great reel.  Maybe it was priced too low?

 

I bought the 2000 on closeout.  Plan on using fluorocarbon on it.  Probably 8#, but 6# is a possibility as it is going on a ML rod.

I believe it was replaced by the Tatula LT, which by most accounts is one of the best spinning reels in the Daiwa lineup, regardless of price.

The BG is a Procyon without magseal but, with a direct drive handle and carbon fiber drag.

 

After having been a Shimano fanboy for years I have been converted to Daiwa. 

 

The Tatula is great for guys who want the lightest weight possible and have no need for any seals. I will likely be replacing my 3000 Stradic FK with a 2000 Tatula at some point this year.

 

All things considered it is very hard to beat the BG for the money if weight isn't your primary concern, if it is go with the Tatula.

Yuup that BG is a sleeper ..better then my battle for sure im not a spinning reel guy but IMO the BG is hands down the best spinning reel out here and the black gold aint no slouch either if you dont mind a primative spinning reel with 3 bearings and no anti reverse

This has puzzled me, too. Not just the Procyon, but

the Lexa. While I'm a big fan of Daiwa, it feels  to me

like they have trouble making up their mind when it

comes to mid-range spinning reels.

 

Shimano had the same lineup for ages, then only

recently changed/added up with the Nascii, etc.

 

Not saying Shimano is better, but it left me with the

feeling that if I buy a Daiwa now, it may not be around

by the time I add a second one. Parts, etc. would be

tough to find. Granted, the same can be said of buying

one model of Stradic, then the next one is gonna be 

different...

 

I'm quite intrigued by the Tatula LT models, though I

have heard great stuff about the Fuego LT, as well.

 

I prefer the BG because mine does double duty on inshore. I will take aluminum over generic graphite  (I have no issue with high end carbons like Ci4 and Zaion), a ball bearing in the line roller, and a carbon drag over felt. 

 

For bass fishing I would pick which ever I could find for less money.
