First GAS Bass Boat Purchase

Featured Replies

I've fished Reservoirs the majority of my fishing life and very few times have fished on the Potomac or Sesquahanna. Every time on the rivers it's been in a Ranger that was previosly owned by a Pro.  The boat is amazing but slightly out of price range.

I also live very close to a Bass Pro with the Nitro line of boats.  Nitro seems to have a model of a boat that I like but I can honestly say I've never seen one on the water.  Mostly Triton and Rangers.

So the simple question is...Are Nitros nice boats?  I'm not looking for the quality of the Ranger I've fished but I'm alos not looking for the price tag.

My personal opinion is... yes nitro's are VERY nice boats. I like the Nitro 929 CDX's of course those are the highest end. I think the 640 is a bit small but the 750 and 898 are very nice. Every Nitro I was ever on was enjoyable, the only thing with a nitro compared to a ranger I think is the stability.

I would skip the Nitro's they are on the lower end of quaility and I've nothing heard good about warrenty work.

Check out Skeeters my tourney partner has a ZX 225 very impressed. All the storeage bins come out so you can run wires ect. The whole back deck can be removed. The carpet dryes almost instantly just open the lids an the water just drains away about 20 minutes everthings dry. Also has a great ride.

not about the quality, but about their warranty, heard a few horror stories. Depending on how the river runs, a tin boat or a boat with a jet engine.  As for fiberglass, Skeeter, Ranger, Champion, Bass Cat, they are all good. Depends if your looking for stability, speed, storage ect. ect...    A LOT about purchasing a boat is the dealership or marina you buy it from.

i have a nitro and i can honestly say ive had no issues or complaints about the boat at all......there are some people who are down on nitros but thats their deal....if you find a boat that you like then buy it, people have complaints about everybrand of boat out there....concerning warranties and repairs thats got to do with your dealer , do you know anyone who contacts nitro personally for their warranty repairs?   find a reputable dealer thats the key for any brand of boat

I own a Skeeter. Have owned Rangers, Nitros, Champions, Stratos, Cajuns, and fished out of most of the others. I have never seen any of the larger name brands fail as to hull, transom, etc. If you take care of it they all will give you years of troublefree service. If not all will disapoint you.

I have been in the boat business.  I honestly can say that in my top ten boats Nitro isn't there.

Nitro boats are what they are.

I can walk into a typical Nitro dealer, start digging around deep into the boat and find plenty of fit n finish issues which would make me start to wonder about how well attention to detail was paid to the important stuff you can't see, like the hull construction.

Nitro has had a history of problems.  They're the only bass boat company I know of that actually had an owners complaint internet board.

In the past few years a couple local news stations have done some customer service Action news investigations on Nitro/Tracker after numerous customer complaints.  I can think of no other boat company that has happened to.

They have problems with QC on and off the assembly line. It seems as though some boats are alright and others.........

Tracker/Nitro marine customer service leaves a lot to be desired.  I've had 2 friends own BPS boats.  A Nitro and a Tahoe.  The Nitro owner was often left to feel as just one in a big herd of cattle when it came to issues with his boat.  The Tahoe owners story is a nightmare that I can PM you info on if you're interested.

I'm not advising you to not buy one but I'd consider just how much you're saving.  There are other manufacturers that are putting out boats in the Nitro price range with a better track record of quality of construction and service after the sale.

If you're still convinced that a Nitro is the way to go I would STRONGLY suggest you visit a Nitro authorized INDEPENDANT dealer vs buying off the floor of a BPS store.

Independant Nitro dealers have their own in-house service.  They can pay more attention to detail and problems that may arise and take care of them promptly.  BPS stores can only refer you to 3rd party servicers if you have a problem at which point you become one of those head of cattle.

Good luck.

If you like one get it. Yes the fit and finshin may not be the best, and the other boats come with more stuff, but there are lot of them out there and they guys that I know that have them like them. 2 guys in my club have new ones and they are nice, other guys have new tritons and rangers and they look nicer.  every body know a mercedes is better than chevy, but many many people still buy chevys. we all can affort a mercedes. If that is what you can afford and like them get it. You see a lot of Pro carft boats? they are the same boats

I currently own a Nitro 640LX.  This is my first real bass boat, and yes there are a few things that I would change, but I believe that happens with every brand.  If you take care of it, it'll last for years.  No complaints so far about my Nitro.  It all comes down to personal preference.  Look at KVD.  He is currently #1 on another sites World Rankings and he runs a Nitro.  Same thing can be said for Rick Clunn.  It all comes down to preference. However, I do plan on getting a Bass Cat in the future because of their reputation.

I would imagine that KVD leases his boats from Nitro free of charge. I wouldn't be surprised if they even pay him to run their boats.

Guess you didn't get the FREE part :-? You can look up the definition of the word "LEASE" by yourself.

when you have to guess hes not paying for it well jokes on you ;D

I own a nx882 I love the stability . It takes rough 3' chop easily and does not get you wet . My boat is 18'6" and mine is very reliable . Any boat you look at you gonna have people say they arent built well or there not good quality . Im currently fixing to upgrade and I will stick with nitro .
